The thesis focuses on Notitia Linguae Sinicae written by Joseph de Prémare, especially research on the new found chapters about "Chinese etiquette" in British Library. Joseph de Prémare wrote this unique chapter in a grammar book for the aim of introducing some important norms in conversation, social behavior and human relationship in social and officialdom life in Qing dynasty. These contents not only showed the real life about Chinese ordinary people and literati, but also the tendency and change of the view about social etiquette. By sorting out these materials, they provides precious language materials to the research of "Guanhua" in Ming and Qing dynasties, and furthermore, it helps us to profoundly understand the social customs at the time from the perspective of westerners. The new found chapter could provide a lot reference value to the research of social and cultural history in Ming and Qing dynasty.
