抄録

Nishikawa Mitsuru’s literary movement is important for most Taiwanese. It is because of his insistence on literature that Taiwanese literature was able to develop into today’s spectacular body of works. Due to descriptions of the Colonization Movement, however, Nishikawa’s works are opposed by Taiwanese and the target of criticism. Nevertheless, Nishikawa’s literature is very important, and it is impossible to ignore him and his works in discussions of contemporary Taiwanese literary history. This article focuses on Nishikawa’s novels published in Taiwan before World War II, and, after analyzing their characteristics and issues, it rethinks the significance and value of Nishikawa Mitsuru’s literature in the history of Taiwanese literature.
