説明

There are two versions of Oda Sakunosuke's short story "Rikuhaku kinsei" (六白金星) : one intended for the journal Bungei in 1940, the other published after the war in the journal Shinsei in 1946. The Bungei version could not be published because of wartime censorship. But in September 2013, the unpublished manuscript of an afterword to the first edition of Oda Sakunosuke's Meoto zenzai, a collection of short fiction published in 1940, was discovered among materials in the possession of Oda Teiko. This manuscript confirms that the author had originally intended to include "Rikuhaku kinsei" in this collection - an indication of the importance he assigned to this work. Four pages of "Rikuhaku kinsei" draft manuscript fragments were also part of this September 2013 discovery - all of them from a draft manuscript of the 1940 Bungei version of the story. A comparative reading of the newly discovered fragments was conducted against about the first half of the Bungei-version "Rikuhaku kinsei" manuscript, now in the possession of Kansai University. The initial title for the Bungei version of "Rikuhaku kinsei" was "Katatsumuri" (The Snail). Why? This paper, while introducing these valuable draft manuscript fragments for the Bungei version of "Rikuhaku kinsei," uses this new materials to explore the riddles surrounding the origins of "Rikuhaku kinsei."
