抄録

This article is a study about how Japanese and English speakers construe and linguistically encode the situations, especially focusing on the expressions of feeling and sensation. Japanese speakers tend to prefer subjective construal, while English speakers like objective construal. The author tries to explain the zero restriction of the use of pronouns in English with the contrast of Japanese, not from the behavioristic standpoint but from the standpoint of `the impersonality of viewpoint and perspective.'
