We have recently shown that green tea epicatechins complexed with copper kill colon cancer cells of the Caco-2 line, in vitro, at concentrations for which copper alone does not affect cell viability.Attempting to elucidate the mechanism of killing, we found hereafter that epicatechms actively transport copper inside the cells promoting a prooxidant state eventually leading to apoptosis.
