RSVP課題は,時間的に連続して視覚的に入力される対象の中から異なる特徴を持つターゲットを検出する課題で,主に視覚情報処理過程の注意もしくは特徴統合の時間的特性を調べるのに用いられる。本研究ではターゲット手がかりの空間的特性が課題遂行にどのような影響を持つのかを調べた。4つの実験ではターゲットを定義する手がかりとして枠あるいはドット・パタンを用い,その色や大きさを変化させた。結果は手がかりの提示の仕方によって結合錯誤が変化することを示した。この結果について,特徴統合理論および注意の範囲と関連させて考察を行った。

In a typical rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) task, subjects are asked to detect a target which has same feature as distracters (to-be-reported feature) but a specific feature (target-defining feature). Subjects frequently make target identification errors, which reflect conjunction errors between target-defining feature and to-be-reported feature in immediately preceding or following a target. In a part, patterns of these errors are thought to occur due to the different nature of stimulus used in the task, e.g. letters, words, and pictures, which are expressed as to-be-reported features. However, it is unclear that the difference of target-defining feature affects target identification or its errors. Here we report experiments, in which various target-defining features are used with to-be-reported feature unchanged. The results show that the patterns of target identification errors and the detection of correct targets change according to target-defining features. In addition that target-defining features play an important role in RSVP tasks, we discussed that the span of attention and the object-based attention are needed to take into account as visual features are integrated in RSVP tasks.
