説明
Locke exhibits his natural theology in Essay concerning Human Understanding. This paper reveals the character of this natural theology in the following ways. It is investigated how Locke's thoughts concerning revealed religion and laws of nature have relevance to his natural theology. Besides, Locke's Essay is compared with Cumberland's De legibus naturae. This comparison between two close philosophical enquiries into laws of nature makes the character of Locke's distinct. These considerations enable us to understand Locke's text in detail against backgrounds of his own thoughts and the contexts of his day. In conclusion, it comes to light that Locke's natural theology reflects his remark on the distinction between is and ought, or nature and reason.
