Description

This article mentions the image of family education in France at the end of the nineteenth century based on the analysis of weekly magazine La Famille (1879-1921). At the time of the publishing also was the official education system established in France. La Famille was a popular family magazine and the target reader was the middle class who were familiar with Republican ideology. It represented an image that mother would bring up her children in a warm and loving home atmosphere. The mass-production of the magazine indicates the spread of family education which is characterized by mother love, and it is independent from school education.
