Case study of the school education support activities by the private sector: Charities and CSR activities in the United Kingdom

In recent years, interest in the collaboration and cooperation with private companies has been growing as one of the trends in educational administration in Japan. Based on this situation, this research aims to clarify the state of the collaboration in UK, where such school education support activities are undertaken by private companies, to give suggestion to Japanese educational administration. In this research, I conducted interviews with four organizations in UK. Consequently, my interviews clarify that the private company which provide school support program have awareness of the some social issues. In addition, intermediary organization between private companies and schools are setting many kind of programs to make these activities effectively. Furthermore, these activities results in some good effects in private companies and schools, and UK society also admits the effects. In conclusion, this study suggests the following three points to the Japanese educational administration. (1) Japanese society need to enhance the awareness of the CSR activities of the private companies. (2) Japanese education administration needs to tell the private companies that the CSR activities to support school education give good effects to our society. (3) Japanese educational administration should set up some intermediate organizations between private companies and schools, and construct the system to connect these actors to promote the CSR activity to support school education.
