The aim of this study is to explore the effectiveness of TV caption to the hearing-impaired people. As a result of consideration of survey methodology, a questionaire survey was conducted on the Internet. Responses were gained from 62 hearing-impaired people, and the findings were as follows. (1) TV programs without caption and the regular TV closed caption make the hearing-impaired people irritated. (2) Though the experimental caption made for this survey was assessed to be readable by the hearing-impaired people, they don't prefer this type of caption. (3) One of the reasons why they dislike it is thought that the experimental caption needs customizing to the user. (4) Some of the hearing-impaired people who mastered Japanese language deficiently tend to prefer using sign language. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the effectiveness of TV caption depending on the degree of disability.
