This study focuses on the issue of Japanese university student morale, particularly relating to teacher's instructional behavior (leadership) and students' class level (based on a language skills and proficiency placement exam). The aim of the study was to identify if there were significant differences in student morale regarding their teacher's instructional (leadership) behavior among the three class levels. Results indicate that the students' morale varies with the leadership which is, in turn, affected by three levels of proficiency.
