In our country, the tendency for Symbiotic Housing" has increased in the background f intensifying environmental problems. In December 1999, we constructed the proposed housing on the basis of the results of studies conducted so far. In this study, we evaluated the results of the proposed housing one year after its construction based on the following evaluation requirements for symbiotic housing: "protection of the global environment", "creation of a harmonious local environment" and "health and comfort in the living environment" Next, we examined the Symbiotic Housing considering the characteristic features of the Joetsu area in a high snowfall region. In this proposal, the importance of "the features of the entrance, "which is the interface between the domestic and foreign environments", "utilization of solar power generation", "highlevel airtight and high-thermal insulating features of the house", and "utilization of building materials without toxic substances" was emphasized. It is important that Symbiotic Housing utilizes measures that are appropriate for the climate and topography of the region.
