In this report we present the results of experimental investigations of ultrasonic attenuation due to particles, e.g. abrasives, suspended in water. The frequency range of ultrasonic is over 1-5 MHz, and suspended particle size is over 0.005-0.3mm in diameter. The following results are obtained. (1) For all kinds of prepared particles, the attenuation increases linearly with regard to particle concentration. (2) The attenuation is dominated by viscous type for the smaller-size paticles in lower frequency range and by scattering type for larger-size in higher frequency range. (3) Numerical calculation of Okano's theory is performed by FACOM computer and these values show good coincidence with our experimental data.
