磁気記録は音声，映像，センサーやコンピュータ等のデータの記録に長く使われてきた。磁気テープストレージは走査方式で特徴づけられ，さまざまな方式が開発された。結局，リニア走査とヘリカル走査が生き残り，競い合いながら進歩してきたが，2010年以降，リニア走査の優位が明確になった。他の記録方式の特性向上が物理限界に近づいてきた中で，磁気テープストレージは進化が続いている。増大するディジタルデータの記録に今後も利用が拡大し続けるだろう。

Magnetic tape storages have been used for long time for recording audio, video and data of sensor, computer and so on. Various scanning systems were developed for tape storage, and after all, linear scanning and helical　scanning survive. The two systems have been struggling with each other. After 2010s, the superiority of the linear scanning became clear. While the performances of the other storage systems come near to the physical limitation, the magnetic tape storages are progressing. They will be used from now on to record expanding digital data.
