Social workers currently work in increasingly specialized areas and geographical regions in Japan. Momoyama Gakuin University (St. Andrew's University, Japan) began its training curriculum for certification in 2010. This paper examines the training at the university seminar for school social workers. The school social work service has been implemented nationwide through the encouragement of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technology from 2008. Following that, the Japanese Association of Schools of Certified Social Worker has issued certifications from 2009. Thus, with its short history, specific training is not yet fully established in Japan. Analyses show that the curriculum needs more focused training contents for a-semester-unit short teaching in which students can visualize specific cases as they participate in their seminars. It is necessary for students to understand alternative theoretical perspectives other than simply, "providing welfare to the needy." Rather, it is important for them to comprehend school social work through the perspective of educating and supporting children. Through understanding meso level practices of social work at school, university curriculums require school systems to synthesize students' specific needs with school teachers, parents, and social workers.
