Abstract

Previous research on participants who are not self-acquainted has demonstrated discrepancy as well as congruence between self-evaluation and other-evaluation. This study hypothesized that in this apparently contradictory context,“ social skills” is a parametric variable. The empirical results verified this hypothesis: participants with low social skills self-evaluated congruently with the others’ evaluations of them, whereas those with high social skills evaluated themselves incongruously from others’evaluations of them.
