Description

This article constitutes the first part of research, which as a whole aims at finding a better method of teaching the course titled : "Cooking for the health of the handicapped" to the students of the department of health and welfare in Sendai College. Here in the first part, the results of a questionnaire survey to the students who attend the class are analyzed. In the questionnaire the following item are dealt with : cooking class in schools cooking in everyday life basic knowledge of cooking The results showed that students had little training and practice of cooking in schools. they did not have much experience of cooking in everyday life. they often have incorrect knowledge about cooking. Considering these results, the following will be taught : improving basic technique of cooking acquiring knowledge and technique of cooking especially for the handicapped cooking practice and nursing by using cooking tools and dishes especially developed for the handicapped In the second part of the research, which will appear in the next bulletin, the changes in knowledge and practice of students before and after the class will be reported.
