本論文では, 本学の学部留学生に対する日本語教育について, 読解教育を中心に論じる。学部留学生は大学入学前に母国や日本語学校で日本語を学び, 日本語力は一定のレベルに達しているが, 日本人学生と同じ条件で学習するためにはさらに総合的な日本語力を高める必要がある。本学の学部留学生の大多数を占める中国の学生にとっても, 専門書を読みこなすためには高度な読解のスキル養成が必要であり, そのためには精読と速読の両方のスキル育成が効果的である。また, 読解力の優劣は日本社会理解能力によっても大きく左右する。学生の読解力を日本語能力と日本社会理解能力をもとに4つのレベルに分け, 問題点及び指導方法の分析を試みた。

This paper aims to describe Japanese Language Programs for international students enrolled as undergraduates at Osaka Kyoiku University, with a special focus on reading comprehension. International students in undergraduate programs usually possess a certain level of Japanese proficiency, since they often study Japanese in their country or at language schools in Japan before entering the university. However, they need to improve their overall ability in Japanese in order to study under the same conditions as the Japanese students. Even Chinese students, who form the majority of the international students, are required to cultivate advanced reading skills in order to understand academic books, even though they have the advantage of a native knowledge of Chinese characters. It is useful for them to develop techniques for both close analytical reading and for speed reading for gist. One's `cultural awareness ability' influences one's reading ability. Once the students have been divided into four groups according to their Japanese language ability and level of cultural awareness, the students' reading difficulties are analyzed for each group, and appropriate teaching methods are suggested.
