近年のコンピュータ技術の発展にともない，さまざまな現場において，作業を確実かつ円滑に行うためのコミュニケーション支援システムが導入されている．歯科医療の現場においても，患者が治療中，口を開けているために会話をできないことや，自らの歯の状態を視覚的に確認できないことが原因となり，患者が医師とのコミュニケーションを容易に行うことができず，歯科恐怖や患者の口腔内健康に対する関心が低いなどの問題が起こっている．そこで本研究では，歯科治療を妨げることなく円滑にコミュニケーションを行うことを支援するために，ウェアラブルコンピューティングの技術を用いたコミュニケーション支援システムを提案し，その設計と実装を行った．提案システムでは，口腔内カメラ，固定型カメラの各種カメラや，音声再生システム，HMD（Head Mounted Display）を組み合わせ，映像と音声を媒体としたマルチメディアなコミュニケーション支援を実現する．これらのシステムの導入により，治療中の医師と患者とのコミュニケーションを活性化し，患者の不安を和らげることや口腔内健康への関心を高めることを支援する．

Many systems are being developed as computer technologies continue to improve and are being introduced in a variety of actual professions in the real world to improve communications. These systems often benefit these occupations by making the work flow steadier and smoother. They can also be applied to dental treatment, because patients cannot speak or see their own teeth while being treated and are limited their communications with dentists. This induces dental fear and creates a lack of patient’s concern about oral health, which are serious problems. However, computer communication systems have seldom been introduced to dental clinics mainly because of their unique surroundings where consultation and treatment are done in the same place and desktop computing is therefore useless. As a result, we propose a system that enables wearable computing technologies to be used to assist communications during dental treatment. We also discuss its design and implementation. It makes use of multimedia communications through images and voice through a combination of various cameras, voice reproduction, and head mounted displays (HMDs). We further show that, by using the system, we can make communications between a dentist and his/her patients more interactive to alleviate their unease, and raise their concern about oral health.
