論文(Article)

According to the database of the Japan Foundation, Kawabata Yasunari is the most widely translated Japanese writer. Kawabata himself also made several translations, but it seems that such facts have not been paid much attention to by readers and researchers of Kawabata literature so far. This paper focuses on the translations by Kawabata of John Galsworthy's "The Road", Lord Dunsany's "The Oases of Death", and Anton Chekhov's "After The Theater" (translated from English). First of all, we consider the background of these translations. Next, I would like to clarify the characteristics of Kawabata's translation from the two sides of sentence and vocabulary. Finally, we analyze the background of translation.
