井上雅二は明治期から昭和前期における日本人の海外進出を牽引する存在であった。彼の活動はマレー半島におけるゴム園開拓事業や日本人の南米移民促進、移民や海外事業に携わる日本人の実地教育の推進など非常に幅広い。しかし井上に関する研究は少なく、現在では彼の名を知る者も少ない。そこで本論文では、とりわけ井上の人物像を中心に描くことで、彼の行動の背景にあった原動力を描く。 Masaji Inoue was a forerunner and promoter of Japanese oversea expansion in Modern Japan. His field of activities included reclamation of Malay, promotion of Japanese immigration to Brazil, and education for those Japanese who wished to leave for abroad full of ambition. This paper is aimed to to describe Inoue and his activies by mainly shedding light on his personarities and blueprint that he believed would contribute to the national existence in the era of the survival of the fittest.
