Description
P(論文)
Some features of a regional museum in the Philippines are examined using the case of Museo It Akean (Aklan Museum) in Aklan Province. It is not entirely a governmental entity but a semi-governmental, semi-private institution founded and supported by a religious foundation memorializing the first Filipino archbishop from the province. In spite of its half-private nature, it is deemed and expected to represent the local cultural heritage as if it were an official mission of the museum. Due to limited funding, the museum is operated with a minimal number of staff, and while fund-raising for the museum is a constant task for the foundation members, the curator shows great devotion to the work. It is supported by the enthusiastic love of the concerned people for their home province. The museum’s exhibition also seems to reflect the strong local pride and identity, which seem to be united and intensified with Filipino nationalism in a unique way.
