Abstract

Teaching conditions in "care for promoting the normal progress of pregnancy" for during midwifery training were analyzed by examining training records of the past 50 deliveries. Based on this, future problems were identified. Students conducted 17 items of care including posture improvements, heat compresses, and massaging painful positions, among others, with breathing exercises the most often conducted care item. Self-evaluation of the degree of mastery in these care skills indicated that the skills were higher after the eighth delivery assistance. However, only a few care activities were actually conducted in the 50 cases. The reason for this could be differences in taking charge of pregnant women, and omissions, among others. The above results suggested the future need to improve lectures, exercises, and training, based on the conditions of available midwifery training for pregnancy care. The findings of this study are however subject to limitations in analyzing past training records.
