説明

type:論文

This paper examines how Japanese citizens in Nagoya formed a network to assist and shelter American deserters from the Vietnam War. In the 1960s, some Japanese intellectuals who lived in Tokyo started to assist deserters as a part of the antiwar movement; this assistance then spread out across Japan. However, there have been no documents or studies about the phenomenon in regions outside Tokyo. In interviewing people who provided this assistance in Nagoya and clarifying their backgrounds and characteristics, I found that their assistance expanded through personal relationships or friendships. Before then, most of them had not had a lot of involvement in the anti–Vietnam War movement but they did have considerable experience taking part in social movements concerned with regional problems. Their knowledge and connections were useful in providing assistance to deserters.
