Description

In the course of studying the quantitative analysis of nucleotides in immature sweet corn grains, we have found a new biochemically active compound named zeanin. On acid hydrolysis of this compound were afforded two substances, one of which was similar to zeanic acid and the other was glucose. From these data the new compound could be inferred to be a glucoside of zeanic acid related compound and glucose. Authors are now investigating for determining chemical structure of zeanin. The effect of zeanin on fruit set of grape was investigated. When cluster was dipped before blossom in 50μg/ml solution of zeanin, the percentage of fruit set increased about three-fold.
