本稿では別子銅山煙害事件が, 住友資本の如何なる蓄積構造の展開過程の下で発現し, それが被害者として反対運動を担う農民の側に如何なる影響を与え, また逆にその運動が住友資本の対応をどう変えていったのか, これら諸点の解明を課題として分析を行った.その過程を三期に区分して分析した結果, 直接的には銅山内の飯米確保を目的としながら, 第I期煙害事件の鎮圧を狙って, 煙害被害地を中心に積極的に行われた住友資本による土地所有の集積地域農民を実質的にその支配下に包摂していき, 鉱山内への労働力吸収と同時に, 小作地からは労務管理の役割を持つ飯米が供給されるという, 土地集積を通じた人・土地・米の三層循環を持つ, 地域に密着した独自の資本蓄積構造を創出した.かかる蓄積構造が, 第II期には住友経営内部の改革, 第III期には住友関連会社の派生という過程をたどる, 住友資本の発展の基盤として位置付けられる.しかし人・土地・米の三層循環とした場合, さらに住友の労働編成の分析, 農村の生産力構造の分析が課題として残される.
In this paper we analyzed the landed property of Sumitomo before its monopolistic capital accumulation system had been established. The development of Sumitomo in its early stage was closely related to the air pollution incidence of its Besshi Copper Mine. We divided the development process of Sumitomo into three periods and analyzed the forms of land accumulation in each period. At that time agriculture was the most important industry and the owners of land ruled the district. Sumitomo purchased land in the polluted areas in order to suppress protest against air pollution. As a result Sumitomo became not only the biggest land owner but it was also able to integrate the three factors of land, food and manpower. In addition Sumitomo absorbed the idustrial relations system which belong to the landed property. This meant that whilst Sumitomo purchased the land for a high price it received this system for free. It was this system which formed the basis of later develoments by Sumitomo.
