2010年4月から2012年3月までの期間にと殺された馬90頭中86頭にSarcocystis fayeriの感染が認められた。生鮮シストは6,000-10,000x80-320μmの大きさ，壁は4-5μmで壁には放射状構造がみられた。病理組織所見は，シスト壁は厚く，放射状構造がみられた。走査および透過電顕所見はシスト壁に指状のvillar protrusionが観察された。犬への感染実験では，投与後11日日から11-13x7-9μmの大きさの胞子形成スポロシストの排泄がみられた。
