Abstract

The number of generator engines used and their relation to fuel consumption were examined from April to September, 2014, in the Training Ship Kagoshima Maru. The mean values of fuel consumption per hour were 129 liters for one, 243 liters for tow and 385 liters for three generator engines. The fuel consumption increased in proportion to the number of generator engines used. Two generator engines were usually used between April, 2012 and March 2014. If the navigation plan is made for this speed, the fuel consumption can be reduced because the speed of 7 knots can obtained by using one generator engine.
