Description
In May 1996, Megan, the seven years old girl who lived in N J, was killed by an ex-sex offender who lived in the house opposite her. This incident helped establish "Megan's law", which opened a convict's address to the local community. The law is now in foroughout America as well as in Canada and Europe. Megan's Law reguires convicted sex offenders to register with local enforcement authorities, and establishes a notification process to provide information about offenders to the public. In this paper, examine the establishment of Megan's Law, I comment on the propriety of making personal information public. Criminal information aids the maintenance of public order and the safety of the local comnunity.
