In Spanish there are two types of comparative construction corresponding to the English more than: más que and más de. In this article I treated them from the semantic and syntactic points of view. First I explained the semantic connotations of más que and menos que sentences. Second I compared no ... más que and no ... más de constructions. In the following section I proposed a quantitative interpretation of the más de structure, as opposed to the más que structure. That is to say, the más de phrase has the same function as normal quantifiers like uno, dos, mucho or Just más. Juan tiene un libro. Juan tiene muchos libros. Juan tiene más libros Juan tiene más de cien libros. Juan tiene más libros de lo que crees. Finally based on this interpretation, I analysed más ... del que and más ... de lo que structures and concluded that the former is a pure comparative construction and that the latter is an expression with a separated quantifier.
