Abstract

This article discusses the results of two questionnaires,which were designed to ascertain Hokkaido University students’opinions and needs concerning their Spanish cultural and language learning experiences. The questionnaires included information related to the contents of the language classes and of the associated Spanish language textbook. The purpose of this research was to determine the appropriateness of teaching and learning practices associated with the use of the textbook in order to design the new textbook for 2013. The analysis of the results consists of student profiles,and their needs and opinions related to the study of different social and cultural contexts from around the Spanish-speaking world. It also focuses on how students utilized this textbook for selfstudy outside of the classroom and the students’perceptions of the appropriateness of the use of this textbook in the classroom contexts.
