Description

This paper aims to bring up a proposal to discuss sports as consumed objects in the contemporary consumer society. An article, "Programme pour une sociologie du sport" in Choses Dites, an anthology of Pieere Broudieu inspires the author of this paper a lot, so the Japanese title of this paper named after Broudieu's article. In this paper, two professional sports events held annually in Japan, international volleyball league games and the J-League (Japanese football league) games are picked up. Both league games have "entertainment" events rather than these more sports games, and the audience only consume the events. Broadcasting stations change these sports games into consumer-oriented entertainment. So we need to discuss professional sports in a sociological point of view, and the relation of mass media and the spectators.
