Abstract

In this essay the author explores how Kamei Katsuichiro formed his thought in accordance with his important works. Kamei Katsuichiro turned a Japanese Buddhist and a follower of Japanese culture after he failed in his political activity as a Marxist. Especially “Shotokutaishi (『聖徳太子』 Prince Shotoku)” and “Shinran (『親鸞』Monk Shinran)” are his significant works. Through these activities, he established his foundation as a civilization critic. It is in this aspect that Kamei proved himself to be a true civilization critic. In this essay the author also refers to Kamei’s specific commentary and reveals their problems.
