Long period variations of thunder day at the four meteorological stations in Hyogo Prefecture, Toyooka,Himeji, Kobe and Sumoto are investigated in relation to the global warming. Among those four stations, the number of day suffered by thunder is increasing year by year after 1970 only at Toyooka. It is foundthat number of thunder is increasing in winter time at Toyooka. As Toyooka locates on the Japan Sea, if thesea surface temperature is warming, possibly the stability of the air layer near the sea surface becomesunstable under the condition of winter monsoon from cold Siberia and it might introduce numberof thunder. Supporting our presumption, there is an evidence that the sea surface temprature near westernJapan is warming after 1970.
