Abstract

A seriously damage by the Niigata-ken Chuetsu Earthquake in October 23, 2004, was occurred in the south-eastern area of Nagaoka City, which was distant about 10km from its epicenter. Many wooden buildings and dozohs (mud-walled buildings) were transformed, and collapsed, but damage to reinforced concrete building was slight. The damage to wooden buildings was focusing on the range of 80-100m width, extending toward the northeast-southwest, which is identical with the boundary of alluvial plain and more higher plain.
