  • Assessment of Local Cerebral Blood Flow in Dementia Patients Using 123I-IMP SPECT

Description

The distribution of N-isopropyl-p [123Ⅰ] iodoamphetamine (123Ⅰ-IMP) shows proportion of the local cerebral blood flow (l-CBF), and single photon emission computed tomography can quantify the regional activity of 123I-IMP. The 123I-IMP SPECT images were obtained in 9 patients with dementia. Multiple infarction dementia cases showed diffused hypoperfusion area centering white matter and basal ganglia, then Alzheimer type dementia patients were recognized decreased l-CBF of temporoparietal region. The l-CBF measurement with 123l-IMP is useful method that distinguish the type of de-mentia, and may clarify the pathogenesis of dementia diseases.
