Description

This paper deals with the transition of Akutagawa ryunosuke [1892~1927]’s way of expressing dreams in his works. Especially, we focus on the viewpoint whether narrators tell their dreams in first person novels at the position in dreams or the one out [they woke up from] them. First, we analyze expression of dreams in Akutagawa’s early letters in 1914. Secondly, based on that, we consider “MENSURA ZOILI” the Akutagawa’s first work in which the dream appears in 1917 while seeing influence from Mori ogai’s “Ryuko[Trends]” in 1911.Finally, we take up “Fushigi na shima[The strange island]” the parody of “MENSURA ZOILI” by himself in 1924 and reveal its expression and the changes from previous works.
