説明
From two works written by Nishi Amane (西周) in the first half, I discussed Confucianism (儒学) and Native Studies (国学) that he understood. Nishi’s understanding of Confucianism was initially formed by studying Neo-Confucianism (朱子学), but was eventually influenced by Sorai Gaku (徂徠学). However, Nishi’s Sorai Gaku is not the political thought that leads to the Western “modern” which pointed out by Maruyama Masao (丸山眞男), but the thought that human beings have a variety of talents, each of which demonstrates their own talents, and as a result, the whole society was harmoniously stabilized. Regarding Native Studies, in Tsuwano (津和野) where Nishi spent his youth, there were people who had a unique discussion while belonging to the line of Hirata Atsutane (平田篤胤). Nishi envisioned critically aware of their debate, especially the debate on Japanese language, so that he developed his own Japanese language theory incorporating Western language theory. Nishi’s diversified discussions are characterized by being formed in an interactive and controversial fashion, rather than Internal self-dialogue.
