It is becoming more and more difficult during recent years for children to find an opportunity to undergo an experience in local communities. However, assuming a participation of at least one year's duration, the mountain village education initiative which introduces various experience-based learning besides the daily life in a mountain village is a program that adds an experience in nature and local communities, indispensable to the education of the children. In this paper, we tried to draw an outline of the various studies on mountain village education up to 2012, by paying attention as well to the local communities' way of handling it in order to clarify the trends and the future issues of mountain village education initiatives. Consequently, the main issues were the bias concerning the search procedure and the study goal, and in the case of discussing the exchange between the children and local communities, the fact that the concrete process and circumstances which are the basis of the research were not explored sufficiently. It is believed that mountain village studies should be developed by finding new focus points and by increasing their concreteness using a multi-faceted approach.
