Covid-19のパンデミックにより、日本の大学は2020年前期をオンラインで実施することを余儀なくされた。英語の教師は、必死の思いですべての資料をオンラインに移行してオンデマンドのコースを作成するか、リアルタイムでのオンライン授業を実施するかの選択を迫られた。本論文は、学生と教師の前期の経験を振り返り、検証する試みである。学生と教員の双方が調査とインタビューを受け、オンデマンドとリアルタイムの両方のオンライン英語教育の良い点と悪い点及び大学のCovid-19パンデミックの全体的な対応方法などについての振り返りを共有した。オンデマンド及びリアルタイムの指導についての多くの利点や欠点、さらに、大学の支援、特に学生への学術的支援と技術的支援の重要性が明らかとなった。

When the Covid-19 pandemic forced universities in Japan to conduct the spring semester 2020 online, English teachers were forced to frantically migrate all their material online and decide to make their courses either on-demand or conduct them in real-time at short notice. This paper is an attempt to reflect on the experience of both students and instructors. Students and instructors were both surveyed and interviewed and shared their reflections about benefits and drawbacks of both on-demand and real-time online English instruction as well as their university's overall handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. A number of benefits and drawbacks of on-demand and real-time instruction were found as was general agreement on the importance of university support, particularly technical and academic assistance for students.
