Description
This study aimed to examine the feeling of elderly patients in various stages of rehabilitation after hip joint replacement. A total of 5 elderly patients, who were able to communicate and undergoing, were studied. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and qualitatively analyzed. The results demonstrated that [motivation for rehabilitation] and [the joy of recovery] were categories common to all stages of rehabilitation. Further, [recognition of the current situation and anxiety over recovery] was identified throughout the stages from using a wheelchair to walking with a cane. In addition to this, [confidence in the physical therapist] and [anxiety over falling] were observed during the stage of using a wheelchair, and [preparation for life after hospital discharge] during the stage of walking with a cane. These results suggest that it is important to provide patients with mental support, considering their feelings in each stage of rehabilitation, to maintain their motivation. Particularly in elderly patients, information regarding home remodeling facilitates their preparation for life after hospital discharge, and, therefore, should be provided during the stage of rehabilitation of walking with a cane.
