This paper is mainly a detailed introduction to J. Geanakoplos and W. Shafer's 1990 J.M.E. article. After some necessary preliminaries, a degree theorem is proved and applied to the existence problem of a simple increasing returns model. In the Appendix, we give proofs to the basic facts, especially of "Arrondissement des Varietes a Coins", used but not proven in our VII.
