説明

The Lower Miocene Iozen Formation mainly consist of dacite pyroclastic rocks and rhyolite and intercalated clastic rocks such as sandstone, mudstone, and conglomerate. We rediscovered the molluscan fossils in the Iozen Formation in Kamino, Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture, central Japan. This semi-autochthonous molluscan assemblage yielded Vicarya cf. yokoyamai, Menkrawia notoensis, Conus sp., Vapricardium cf. ogurai, “Cycladicama” takeyamai, Cyclina (Cyclina) cf. takayamai, Meretrix arugai, Hiatula minoensis, from intertidal to subtidal environments. It is appropriate to think of the geological age of the Iozen Formation as the Early Miocene, which is contrasted with the Kunimi Formation in the Niu Mountains and the Yamanaka and Kayano Formations in the Kaetsu area, which are all from the Early Miocene (about 17.5 to 17 Ma).
