抄録

小中学校において「生命を大切にする教育」の充実が叫ばれているにもかかわらず、それと相反するような事件が後を絶たない。その原因は、こうした事件を引き起こした本人の問題だけでなく(1)家庭や社会において、煩わしいからとの理由で心と心のふれあいを避けるような風潮があること、(2)日常生活から「死」やその前段階としての「老い」が遠ざけられてしまった現代社会の構造、(3)学校教育において「生命を大切にする」ことは取りあげられているものの、「人の死から目をそらそうとしている」学習指導のあり方など、子どもたちをとりまく環境も影響しているのではないだろうか。 「生命を大切にする」ことは「知識として教える」だけでは必ずしも十分とは言えないし、「死」から目をそらしていたのでは「生きる」ことの本当の意味はわからないのではないだろうか。小学校高学年の児童の相当数が「人が死んでも生き返る」と思いこんでいるという調査結果が、そのことを物語っているように感じられてならない。 ところで、保育科の学生は保育士資格を取得するために福祉施設での実習が必修として課せられる。施設では、身心にさまざまなハンディを持つ人びとが職員の支援を受けながら日々の生活と取り組んでいる。そこで、保育科の学生の施設実習に焦点を当て、障害を持つ人びとが一生懸命に生きている姿や、そうした人びとを愛情を持って支えている施設職員の姿から「生きる」ことについてどのようなことを感じたかを調査し「生命を大切にする教育」の手がかりを探ってみた。　Although there is a loud cry for repletion of "education to value life" at elementary and junior high schools, endless, contrary affairs have been occurring. They may have been caused by the persons concerned, but I assume that they are influenced by the environment around children such as (1) our social environment, where "death" and its previous stage, "old age" have been avoided, (2) guiding principle, "trying to avert our eyes from the death of human beings," though "valuing life" is taught in school education. To value life" cannot be fully appreciated if "it is taught as a sort of knowledge. If eyes are kept away from "death", can "life" get a proper understanding? Upon investigation, a considerable number of pupils in the 5th and 6th grade (of elementary schools) have an idea that "people revive even after their death. This will give an account of the above question, I think. Now, students of nursery course are required to practice at welfare institutions to get a certificate of nursing. There those who are handicapped mentally and physically endeavor to live supported by all the staff. Therefore I focused my attentoin on students' training at welfare institutions and investigated their view of "life" through their experiences with the disabled making their efforts to live and with the staff backing up them affectionately. I have made this attempt with the intention of finding a clue to "education to value life".
