The purpose of this report is to show the situation about the development of lakeside resorts as a case study of recreational geography in Yamanaka-ko village, the northern-part of Mt. Fuji. The results are summarized as follows : The lakeside resorts in Yamanaka-ko village had been formed by the policy of Yamanashi prefectual govern ment and the development of Fujikyuko Co., Ltd. Fujikyuko Co., Ltd., originated in Fuji-Sanroku-Railway Co., Ltd., had been founded to develop the northern part of Mt. Fuji. The business of the company had been the improvement of traffic networks and construction of tourist facilities in the northern part of Mt. Fuji, especially in Yamanaka-ko village had been the construction of vacation home areas in order that had taken a lease of land which the prefectural government had owned. After the World War II, mainly later than 1960, the development of tourist facilities in the village has actively extended owing to the investment of not only Fujikyuko Co., Ltd. but also the companies by Kofu city, Tokyo, and so on. On the other hand, the villagers remarkably joined to the tourist industry and progressed to more stable type of advancing industry. Some of them have changed from laborers to capitarists. Since then, there are many tourist facilities, for example, the cheap lodging homes for playing tennis, the hostels operated by farmers, and so on as a regionality. Therefore, almost all of the villagers had been concerning themselves in the tourist industry. Tourization has been progressing all over the village.
