説明

Research on the Japan Nanga Institute （Nihon Nanga-in） has been slow to date. The reason for this is the lack of basic materials. This study examines the conditions of the early years of the Institute, using a newly discovered source, a volume commemorating its foundation. It shows that the Japan Nanga Institute was attempting to halt the decline of the art of nanga, and to nurture the artists of the next generation by introducing expression that would change with the times.
