Abstract
This study aims to develop an on-campus child health nursing exercise program to help students prioritize when facing multiple tasks and interruptions, and to examine utility by reviewing their learning. We conducted the program for 15 fourth-year students at a university. A qualitative descriptive analysis was then conducted to gauge their learnings based on the reflection sheets they wrote during the exercise. The following ten items were listed: "1. impatience due to schedule changes," "2. difficulty in handling with children while preparing for treatment," "3. necessity of knowledge and skills to make decisions," "4. difficulty in deciding priorities instantly," "5. responding flexibly," "6. importance of cooperation with paired nurses," "7. understanding the child's condition and medical status in advance," "8. anticipating possible situations," "9. consideration for children and their families," and "10. checking the environmental safety.” The results were discussed from the perspective of the exercise objectives: "to be able to explain the concept of basic priorities when facing multiple tasks and time urgency" and "to be able to think of appropriate decisions and responses.” Although the program posed some limitations in terms of whether the students could carry out the nursing skills and make appropriate requests to their paired nurses, the students learned as much as earlier studies. Therefore, the program can be used in the future.
