2005年からGoogle Earth始まり,2009年には「地球上に存在するすべての建物の3Dモデルを作成する」という課題の解決策としてBuilding Makerを用意した.また,3Dモデルは3Dモデリングソフト「Goosle SketchUp」を使って修正することも可能.Google Earth とGoogle SketchUpとの連携機能を利用し,Google Earth上の衛星写真.地図と3Dモデルの合成表示を試す.
