In Okinawa, the conditions of soil and rainfall are worse in regard to erosion. The aim of this studies is selecting some herbal kinds of native plant in Okinawa as materials for recovering the surfaces of bare slopes. The following 22 species have possibility as materials for recovering the surfaces of bare slopes, Cynodon Dactylon Pers., Imperata cylindrica var. major C. E. Hubb., Microstegium ciliatum A. Camus, Oplismenus compositus Beauv., Panicum repens L., Paspalum conjugatum Berg., Paspalum dilatatum Poir., Paspalum orbiculare G. Forst., Paspalum vaginatum Sw., Gahnia tristis Nees, Lespedeza cuneata D. Don, Bidens pilosa L. var. minor Scherff, Bidens pilosa L. var. radilata, Farfugium japonicum Kitamura, Wedelia biflira DC., Wedelia chinensis Merr., Wedelia prostrata Hemsl., Wedelia robusta Kitamura, Ipomoea pescaprae subsp. brasiliensis Ooststr., Trachelospermum asiaticum var. brevisepalum Tsang, Ficus pumila L., Ficus stipulata Thund.. With these herbal plants, the characteristics of multiplication, the selectivity of soil, the degree of water requirement and covering will be recognized in next series.
