Abstract

A geochemical study on hot spring gush out of the sea bottom of 22 meters deep off Taketomi-jima reveals that the spring water at well mouth is 17.8-18.1 % of chlorinity and 37.5℃ in temperature which is considerably higher than the temperature of the water column in the vicinity (about 25℃). Based upon the result of the simple mixing ratios between sea water and fresh spring water, temperature and depth of the subground water reservoir could be \nestimated as 191℃ and 130 m beneath sea level. This is thought to be active thermal source which gives good cause for hope.
